Lucky Strike Fishing Charters, LLC is an owner-operated charter boat operating out of Deale, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. We are a short drive from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Baltimore and Annapolis. The Lucky Strike is inspected and certified by the United States Coast Guard to carry up to 17 passengers and 2 crew. Captains Shawn Brumley and Tawn Tipsword both hold USCG Master Mariner Licenses as well as Maryland Guide Licenses.
Capt Shawn is a lifelong Maryland resident and father of three. He began his professional fishing career in the early 1980’s working on crab boats and as a Mate on numerous charter boats with some of the biggest names in the business. Recreationally Capt Shawn has fished from the northern reaches of Canada to South Florida. Capt Shawn obtained his Captain’s license in 1988 and bought the old Lucky Strike in 1992.
Capt Tawn is a retired Navy Master Chief Petty Officer who spent most of his adult life underwater in the US Navy Submarine Force. As a young man he fished the lakes and the rivers near his home in the Midwest as well as frequent fishing trips to Canada with his father. His Navy travels have afforded him the opportunity to fish all over the world including Hawaii, Canada, Pacific Northwest, South Florida, Central America and Norway. He began his charter fishing career mating for Capt Shawn as well as filling-in with other area Captains. He obtained his Captain’s license in 2012.
After a three year search and looking at dozens of boats which did not meet their high standards, Capts Shawn and Tawn finally found the boat which would become the Lucky Strike in 2015 at which point they bought the boat and became business partners.
Our goal is to exceed your expectations whether that is a hard-core fishing trip, a bachelor/bachelorette party, a laid back family outing, a company trip or just a day on the water with your family.
All skill levels are welcome. We all started somewhere – whether you are seasoned blue water pro, a freshwater angler, or if you are 5-years old and it’s your first time on a boat; all are welcome. We will do our utmost to put a smile on your face and send you home with memories of a lifetime in addition to a cooler of fish.
We also offer educational based trips for those with their own boats wishing to shorten their learning curve. We definitely do not know it all, but we will teach you what we do know, how we go about doing it and why we do the things we do.
If you are looking to host a company outing, a team-building trip or a customer appreciation fishing party, let us help. We can coordinate with other boats that meet our standards to accommodate groups of almost any size.
Seasons may vary year-to-year with Maryland Department Of Natural Resource’s regulations but in general, spring is the time for trophy Rockfish. Late spring and early summer is trolling for resident Rockfish. Early summer we begin light tackle fishing for Rockfish with cut bait and live spot. Mid summer will find us light tackle Rockfishing, trolling for Spanish Mackerel and bottom fishing for tasty white perch and jumbo spot. Late fall we will return to trolling for Rockfish as they school up feeding.
